Mobile Home Park Retrofit
Mobile home parks [ parks constructed prior to the 1976 HUD code ] were often laid out as diagonal lots around 125' long x 40' wide or around 5,000 sq ft. These dimensions are used as a guide for imagining how a distressed park - parks where 20% or more of the lots are vacant - might be refurbished and brought back online:
In the design shown above, singlewides of 16' x 76' are installed at 45 degrees to the street. Windows and doors are kept to 3 sides of the home with the back playing the role of a 'party wall'. This allows the side yards to be completely private, where they serve as courtyard style 'outdoor rooms'.
A rudimentary feasibility analysis of converting a park from economy class to luxury class is made here.
