Mobile / Garage / Courtyard / Development

VRT has become a serious fan of the manufactured home - so much so it is working hard to envision a manufactured suburban development which the middle class will find an attractive alternative to the site built home. VRT believes the two indispensable ingredients for middle class manufactured adoption are a spacious garage and private outdoor living. Privacy, while often not handled especially well with site built construction, is all but non existent in mobile home parks. In this post, a previous post with a more elaborate design is reworked and simplified with an eye toward practicality and spatial efficiency. The result is a smaller, rectangular plot around 75' wide by 115' long, approximately a fifth of an acre.

A covered outdoor kitchen is set next to the indoor kitchen for convenient outside grilling with bistro tables on one side and a long, covered dining table on the other. To the rear is a courtyard with covered sofa / lounge - a much simplified take on the 'peristyle' of the Roman Domus. A covered spa is just off the garage for convenient housing of filter and heater. A fountain is placed at the center of the courtyard.
