Deluxe Middle Class Mobile Home Park

It is VRT's contention that the middle class will abandon the traditional site built SFR model in favor of the manufactured alternative once the issues of privacy and garage / storage are satisfactorily resolved. In a previous post VRT proposed a coordinated lot layout for a mobile home park addressing the storage space / privacy problem.

Now a 'tertiary' issue which admits of analysis is the problem of living room size. Frank Lloyd Wright put the emphasis on the living room, maintaining it needs to be the largest room - the centerpiece - the preeminent space in the home. Problem is with the mobile, ceilings max out at 9 feet, while widths are limited to somewhere around 16 feet - adequate perhaps - but not complying with Wrightian dictum.

VRT's solution is put a large format living room over the garage. As shown in the drawings, this living room can accommodate a very large format projection TV screen of around 20 ft wide by 10 ft high. This living room is also designed to work as a library and office. With the living room subtracted from the mobile home, either a smaller mobile home is required or larger and more bedrooms / kitchen / dinging space becomes possible.

VRT proposes to offer at least two model units, one with mobile home and garage, the other with mobile home and garage with upstairs living room. In the future if the concept proves successful the hope is to offer custom mobiles one with living room the other without.
