Refuge In Suburbia
A constellation of factors is driving people out of cities and into the suburbs. At the same time the old 'builder' produced 'luxury' house no longer has much relevance. New upscale home buyers want pleasant practical places to live offering elegance, design, and gracious living.
To that end VRT proposes its walled garden home with Mediterranean style garden in back and raised terrace in front. The back garden is combined with a large living room to carry the eye outward as Frank Lloyd Wright advised. The front terrace is integrated with a large cantilevered porte cochère / carport which can house 4 or 5 cars while providing secure storage for such things as bicycles and garden tools. The design shown has five bedrooms and is designed to accommodate either a vacuum or screw drive elevator, indicated schematically in the drawings as a transparent blue tube. The kitchen, dining room, outdoor dining area, hot tub / spa area, and bedrooms occupy the top floor while the garden and living room occupy the bottom floor with a basement beneath.
The interior space is somewhere around 5,500 sq ft on lots of around 10,000 sq ft.
VRT's design is intended for execution in ICF concrete - both for walls and for decks / floors, and it would very much like to partner with developers interested in building such type of suburban residential community.
