Example Cabinet Design Assembled with Dog Bone & Pocket Hole Joinery

With a little ingenuity, flat pack furniture can be designed so that it can be easily and quickly assembled on site. As an example, a 4 ft x 4ft x 1ft cabinet was designed - two placed end to end forming a sofa / bed platform - with convenient built in storage. The CNC routed panels use the CNC signature 'dog bone' mortises and tenons, the connection of choice in the CNC birch plywood furniture industry. We propose the addition of pocket holes and screws as the best way to fasten dog bone connections. This connection scheme provides an effective and feasible alternative to the cam dowel lock connection systems traditionally used in flat pack furniture.

The cabinet shown below illustrates the idea.
